Hair & Makeup Tips From the Pros

You recently got engaged and you have your wedding date picked out, and now you’re wondering… how do I get the perfect bridal glow on my wedding day?

On your wedding day you should look like yourself at your most beautiful.

We reached out to our Hair & Makeup vendors to share their expert tips and advice on makeup, hair, lashes and nails to help create your wedding day glow. Here’s what they had to say:

PearlGirlMakeup

  1. SKINCARE 101 – Bridal Edition
Start working on a good skincare routine! This will make all the difference with your makeup application and the longevity of your overall look for the big day. Everyone should be working with at least a cleanser, serum and moisturizer, morning and night. Oh, and don’t forget the SPF in the morning! I would highly recommend as well as getting a good facial! The facial I recommend is a hydra facial. You will literally glow after this.
  2. HAIRCARE TIME
Now that you have been treating your skin, let’s treat your hair! Don’t forget to get a fresh cut around a month before your wedding to get rid of any dead ends, and if you colour your hair, a week prior to your special day is recommended. We recommend having a hair trim after your trial, so that way you can plan on how many faces framing you’d like to see with your look. Another great tip you should be doing at home is using a hair mask! This will help with keeping your hair healthy, but also reduce breakage in your hair to create the perfect bridal hair look. I would recommend once a week. The hair mask I love is Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask.
  3. POLISH UP
Come to your appointment polished. Meaning, wax any unwanted hair around your lips & chin. As well as your brows and have them shaped by a professional. There is no shame around this, as it’s super common! Having your brows shaped professionally, especially before your wedding is crucial to have a polished bridal look. If you are unsure, this is something we can chat about at the trial!
  4. ALWAYS A TRIAL
Always opt for a makeup & hair trial. You will thank me later. So many times, we have brides that just don’t know what they want until they see it. Imagine on your wedding day not being on the same page as your hair & makeup artist and not loving your overall look. Trials are a great opportunity to try out a couple different looks, get to know your artist and get to know what you like! This will also allow you and your artist to be on the same page. Once your wedding day comes, there is a game plan and it is a stress free zone! Ask your artist how they prefer you to show up to the appointment. Fresh, clean skin and clean dry hair is the best way to prepare. I would also consider doing a sheet mask the night before. Don’t forget to bring your hair accessories and hair extensions. Brownie points for those who come with pictures of the ideal look they want!
  5. HAIR EXTENSIONS
I’m sure when you are looking at inspiration photos of your bridal hair look, you see all these women with these bridal styles that have long, thick hair. They have so much hair, it creates the most ethereal bridal look. Then you look in the mirror and you wonder how on earth do they have so much hair. The quick answer is…. hair extensions!! The pictures you look at on Pinterest have hair extensions, and maybe even two sets of extensions. I always suggest hair extensions, especially when you are looking for glamour waves. Hair extensions create a full hairstyle look, and they can be very natural too. Always opt for 100% Human Remy hair extensions.

Polish Me Pretty

  • STAY HYDRATED: Drink lots of water & start an effective skin care routine. Drinking water will hydrate your skin and helps maintain skin elasticity. Using a quality cleanser and moisturizer will ensure your skin is in the best shape for makeup application. We include a skin care set for all our Brides that fights fine lines and wrinkles, tightens skin elasticity and creates younger looking skin.
  • HIRE FOR EXPERIENCE: Hire a makeup artist who has proven experience on many different skin types, ages, textures, and skin colors. This will ensure they are able to create a look that represents who you truly are versus someone who mostly shows trendy makeup looks that only suit specific clients or themselves.
  • AIRBRUSH MAKEUP: Consider Airbrush foundation or full face airbrush makeup. Using professional airbrush makeup offers many benefits such as 12 + hour wear time, water, sweat and transfer resistance, and High Definition certified. Airbrush makeup has you looking flawless in person and in professional photography. It also is extremely lightweight and buildable on your skin. At the same time, it still offers full coverage that can hide imperfections, blemishes and it won’t settle into fine lines, wrinkles or pores.

DO’S:

  • Search for photos to inspire your wedding hair look. Have them saved to share with your stylist.
  • Book a trial with your hairstylist. This time helps your stylist better prepare for your perfect look on the big day.
  • WASH YOUR HAIR! Day before or morning of wedding. “Dirty hair” does not style better. We have products to give you the texture you need.
  • Get it trimmed. Yes I know we’re all growing it for the wedding date. However, if your ends are sparse or split, they won’t style well. Don’t fret, even a small trim will help.

DON’TS:

  • Have wet/damp hair when it’s your turn for styling the morning of the wedding.
  • Apply products in your hair before your updo appt, unless approved by your stylist.
  • Have unrealistic expectations on your own hair. Remember, most Pinterest photos are models with 2-5 sets of extensions to achieve that look. If you want that volume, invest in some additions to help make it happen.

Miliyan Lashes

It’s your big day and you’ve decided to get eyelash extensions. Eyelash extensions are most definitely an amazing boost, helping you to look and feel your best every day but especially on your big day. So how do you make the process easier, so that you can get the best lashes possible?

  • To prepare for your upcoming appointment you should book with a lash stylist who is certified and insured.
  • If you wear waterproof mascara, discontinue use 3 days prior to your appointment. The compounds used to make mascara can remain on the lashes even after cleaned. This will prevent the adhesive from sticking properly to the lashes.
  • Arrive with a freshly clean face and impeccably clean lashes.
  • Avoid oil based products on and around the eyes.
  • Arrive freshly showered and with clean hair. You won’t be able to wet the lashes for the initial 24 hours after application.
  • Remove your contacts, if you wear them. My recommendation is to wear your glasses the day of service.
  • If you have scheduled a facial, get that done first and your lashes last.

MM Beauty

  • Makeup starts with skincare. The better you take care of your skin, the better your makeup will look.
  • Just because they are nails, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be kind to them. Take care of your nails, and they will take care of you!
  • Never chew or rip off your nails!
  • If your gel polish chips and you want to take it off, NEVER peel the gel off. Soak in acetone, for safe removal. Peeling causes damage to the natural nail.
  • Wear gloves when cleaning the house or doing dishes. This will protect you manicure/tips from damage, and keep them lasting longer.
