What made you get into the wedding industry?
When the pandemic hit, the church that Iβm a part of needed help getting content online since they couldnβt have in-person services anymore. Although I didnβt know much about using a camera, I had a basic one at the time, so I volunteered to help. Incredibly quickly I grew to love it and spent all my time learning how to master the fundamentals of video. Not even exaggerating, I probably spent hundreds of hours in those first months just learning, dreaming, researching, doing courses and practicing to improve my craft. It consumed me. I was obsessed – and I loved it.
Soon after, I realized that there were also other areas where I could serve people with my camera. I realized that weddings were these incredibly emotional events, with rich and meaningful stories woven throughout. I was immediately drawn in and captured by the beauty and importance of these films, and the special people that I get to serve every time. This art form is timeless, emotional, and meaningful to the couples in a unique way that nothing else is. Iβm honoured every time I get the privilege to bless someoneβs new marriage with such a special keepsake. And Iβm humbled by how quickly and drastically everything for me took off and grew in this industry.
What makes you differentiate from other vendors?
Although it sounds counterintuitive, the audio is even more important to the viewing experience of a film than the video itself is. What you hear makes up 60% or more of the experience of reliving all those emotions of the day. So as much as you want to have a beautiful wedding film, itβs imperative to pair that with emotional and high-quality audio as well.
Part of the reason that filmmaking came so naturally to me is the fact that I have a background in music production and as a musician. So whether itβs pairing and editing the perfect song to the flow of your wedding day, capturing the emotion in your voices, or sprinkling subtle sound effects into your film, you can be confident in trusting my 15+ years of experience.
What are the perks of booking with you?
As an analytical person with an engineering background, Iβve put those skills to use as best as possible to provide a booking experience and process thatβs straightforward, efficient and personal. Services can be customized to fit your day exactly, and you can trust that the process right from your inquiry all the way to the wedding day will be simple, organized and stress-free. My goal is not only to give you an amazing wedding film, but to alleviate your stress and help you to actually enjoy the process, and your special day.Β
What other fellow wedding vendors do you recommend?
There are so many great wedding vendors to choose from, so definitely surround yourself with a team of people whoβs style and personalities pair well with your own. That being said, Iβd love to give a shout-out to a few really great people that Iβve worked with. Cellar52 is a beautiful venue in the quaint town of St. Jacobβs with the most friendly and helpful staff. Modern Frame Media is another incredibly talented person and another one of the friendliest and most helpful filmmakers youβll chat with. Finally Megan Ernst Photography is also a joy to work with; her moody photos perfectly reflect her cool and edgy style.
What’s the coolest wedding you’ve ever attended?
From beaches to ballrooms, Iβve had the pleasure of capturing a lot of different types of weddings, and each one is special in its own way. One that immediately stands out was an elopement in the Elora Gorge, with a couple and their young son. After spending the afternoon together as a family, getting ready at the beautiful Elora Mill, we all made the hike down the rocky cliff to the bottom of the gorge for their intimate ceremony. There was a total of six people there, including the couple, their son, the officiant, the photographer and myself. This couple was so sweet, and said the most beautiful and teary vows to each other right down beside the river. The moment was so genuine, earthy and beautifully intimate. The wonderful Brittany from Vanruymbeke Photography (who I also highly recommend) and myself even had the honour of signing as their witnesses, being the only other two people there. It was such an honour to not only capture this monumental moment for them, but to sign as witnesses to their love and commitment to each other.Β
What wedding planning advice would you give to engaged couples?
Donβt waste too much time and effort trying to make your wedding exactly as you think other people are wanting or expecting it to be. Find whatβs important to you and your fiancΓ©, and focus on that. If thereβs something you really want to do or have, do it! If thereβs something that you really donβt want to be bothered with, but feel like itβs necessary only for the sake of tradition or external expectations, skip it and focus on what really matters to your relationship. This day is about the two of you – and the more that your day reflects that, the more that your film will be able to capture the essence of your personal love story, for when youβre reliving it decades later.
That being said, be open to what might come your way! You might find that something you didnβt think was necessary ends up becoming the most valuable thing to you in the end. For example, I canβt even tell you the number of times Iβve heard from people that they didnβt think a wedding film would be important, but somehow ended up booking one anyways, and it became the most cherished part of their entire day. So whether itβs a wedding film, some special style or piece of decor, location, or something entirely different, stay open and focused on whatβs going to make this day the most meaningful for you, your future spouse, and maybe even your future grandkids, to look back on.
