When the Narrators Become the Love Story

The narrators begin: The scene is set on a perfect November evening with the final kisses of sunlight pulling away as the soft blanket of dusk covers the shops and streets of Port Dover, Ontario. There was a crispness in the air to these familiar grounds where our couple spent the summer falling in love.
The stores were closed and the people retreated to their homes to cozy up for the evening. Two figures make their way down the now quiet main street, curled close to each other both in affection and for
coveted warmth.
The man invites the woman to sit on a summer-forgotten bench, strategically left out by the shop owner for a moment such as this. Taking his place beside the woman, the man pulls out an ipad and headphones to unfold the beginnings of an intricate and extensive plan.
The unsuspecting female watches as a video reveals a hidden agenda and labyrinth of design, a cast of familiar characters are arranged to bring them to this moment.
Beloved family faces show up on the screen and tears tenderly trace their way down her cheeks with the growing awareness of this pivotal turn in their relationship.
The music track turns to the ever familiar tune of “Marry Me” by Bruno Mars and the man, with tear stained face, invites the woman to look to the gazebo in the park across the street.
Through tear-glazed eyes she sees the muted glow of hundreds of tiny lights and large marquee lettering spelling out the words “MARRY ME”.
The man lovingly guides his sweetheart down the path towards the lights, pausing to hold her and
remind her once again of his unwavering love as her sobs fill his chest.
The intricacy of the lights woven with greenery in their delicate glass cages were more perfect than
any she had seen, and as if on cue, the bells at the church began to chime and the giant snowflakes began their cascade as the man pulled a small box from his pocket and got down on his knee.
Far beyond the point of seeing anything around but her love for this incredible miracle of a man before her, family members quietly made their way into view to capture this moment on camera. “Of course” was her response, how could she even imagine a life without him in it?
Slowly the voices of congratulations and the laughter filled the air causing the snowflakes to seemingly dance in acclamation!
As the scene closes on our couple we find familiarity with their faces, we zoom in on the man and woman in the story only to realize that for once, rather than being the wedding officiants, narrating another romance, both the man and the woman are telling their own saga!
Being able to put words to a couples unique love story on their wedding day as well as begin the next chapter as their wedding officiant is a magical thing. It elevates things to a new level when one wedding officiant is asked by another wedding officiant for “til death us do part.” Do you? I DO!
